Deep down in the scraggle with the Avata 2
Switch to 1440p or 4K for highest bitrate to get best viewing experience.
The DJI Avata 2 has phenomenal O4 video transmission system which reaches over and around corners, behind rocks and into deep winding gullies, at a high enough bitrate that it can handle the high motion detail of flying through the scraggle so I can see most of the little ghost branches and avoid them. I flew this gully years ago on 1.3Ghz and had the range, but couldn't see very well and the drone was big and klunky. Then tried it on DJI V1/V2 gear on a micro quad and had OK range, but not enough bitrate to handle the demands of the scraggle. With the Avata 2, I just keep going and going..
I'm also flying with the ...

Fantastic solar prominences during 2024 Eclipse shot with Seestar S50
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
My timelapse video of the eclipse with a special focus on the amazing bright red solar prominences (flares escape the sun, prominences do not) visible around the rim of the moon during totality. The sun is 865 thousand km across, so those prominences had to be reaching thousands of km into space. The bottom one was visible as a piercing bright red dot to the naked eye. Overall the Seestar S50 r...

      Sorry, didn't see this comment earlier. Was Solar mode, 1 exposure per second timelapse. I put it in manual exposure and had both sliders almost all the way to the bottom. I tweaked one of the sliders slightly just after the filter came off (thus why it was slightly overexposed initially). In post it was sped up another 4x or so, then slowed down to like .25x during totality.

    I just learned, so I'm not being a know it all, that there were no solar flares during the eclipse. I've always used "solar flares" and "solar prominences" interchangeably. They're different. What we saw were solar prominences. They can last days or weeks. A solar flare is an explosive event and none occured during this recent eclipse. I love you video

    I found this video while researching the Albatross for a multispectral survey drone. My current plan was to purchase just an airframe and build it out myself with a Pixawk cube for automated flights. It sounds like you had some issues. Would you still recommend this airframe? Is there something similar you would point people to instead? What mods were you going to make to allow belly landing?

    • @daemn42
      @daemn42 Год назад

      I can really offer no further opinions about this airframe. The wing on mine was badly twisted which made it prone to tip stalling. They said they'd remedy the situation but never did after repeated reminders on my part. I finally stopped pestering them, and have had no further contact with the company. The problem with removing the landing gear is not so much the belly landing, but the launches. It's too heavy and fast to hand launch without power and can't be thrown power-on due to the size of the prop. It would take a very powerful bungee indeed to get it into the air.

    • @EleanorPeterson

      After many decades of traditional balsa, spruce and plywood aeromodelling I was eventually tempted into the world of composites. It was quite a difference. I built large thermal-soaring gliders with spans of up to 14'. They were light, sleek, efficient, and incredibly strong. Dynamic soaring is a very special pursuit. It's not my 'thing', but I do appreciate the skills involved. It's amazing but true that it's possible to design and build an all-composite structure which is literally (and yes, I really do mean literally) indestructible in flight. Wrapped, layered, vacuum-laminated, epoxy-carbon and aramid-fibre components such as wing spars can be made to withstand forces in excess of anything that can be generated when flying, including pulling out of a 5,000' vertical dive as violently as possible. With careful design, it's possible to make a model that simply cannot be broken when in the air. Having said that, there are plenty of other ways to wreck an all-composite plane. The biggest problem in dynamic soaring may well be control-surface flutter leading to servo or control linkage failure. Oh, and if you can't pull out of that aforementioned vertical dive before terra firma interrupts, that indestructible [in flight] structure will most certailny be reduced to a big pile of black spaghetti. 😁
